Description: A violinist enters a ballroom and initiates a dance. A man enters the hall. He interrupts the dance, makes the dancers disappear and then proceeds to transform himself into a demon before taking the musician to his laboratory. The demon and the musician prepare a magic potion in a large cauldron. The demon then makes a woman appear, who begins to perform a serpentine dance, first alone and then accompanied by a number of other dancers. This film forms part of what is known as 'cinema of attractions', successor to the popular shows of the late nineteenth century. Beyond a simple narrative, the film seeks to astound and amaze the audience through a series of visual tricks: transformations, overlays, substitutions and reverse motion, among others.
